our President told a trans immigrant activist to be quiet during a statement about Pride Week
no analogy here, I’m sure
she is an undocumented trans woman from mexico and her name is Jennicet Gutiérrez. obama not only told her to be quiet, but he had her escorted from the white house by secret service officers while his mindless supporters cheered.
Pakistan’s largest charity, Edhi Welfare Organisation, said their two morgues in the city had received more than 400 corpses. “More than 400 dead bodies have so far been received in our two mortuaries in past three days,” Edhi spokesman Anwar Kazmi told AFP. “The mortuaries have reached capacity.”
In Karachi, a city of 20 million people, electricity shortages have crippled the water supply system, the state-run water utility said.
I’ve seen a lot of posts on tumblr asking people to donate to the United Muslim Relief but they don’t have a fund for Karachi and I don’t think they even operate in Pakistan. If you would like to help out, donate to the Edhi foundation; one of the most respected and trusted Pakistani non-profits that provides free medication and funeral services to those in need. Edhi is both helping patients of heat-stroke, providing transport to hospitals, and helping deal with the overwhelming number of dead.
As I reflect on what just happened at the White House, I am outraged at the lack of leadership that Obama demonstrated. He had no concern for the way that LGBTQ detainees are suffering. As a trans woman, the misgendering and the physical and sexual abuse – these are serious crimes that we face in detention centers. How can that be ignored? It’s heartbreaking to see the LGBTQ community I am part of turning their back on me, and the LGBTQ people in detention centers: how can they tolerate that kind of abuse?

Jennicet Gutiérrez
An undocumented transgender woman who interrupted President Obama during the Pride Month Reception at the White House Wednesday called on the administration to release LGBT immigrants from detention, before being escorted out. Jennicet Gutiérrez, who works with LGBT advocacy organizations Familia: TQLMand GetEqual, was removed shortly after she interrupted Obama’s speech.
I feel like I need to say I’m not as cold and aloof as I look in my icon!!!! That’s a persona like to be cool you need to be aloof. Which sucks. But I also really like that photo???? I spent ages having a lot of dysphoria bc my face is v round and ~unmasculine~ to my tastes and wouldn’t take photos of myself and HATED having photos taken.
Me willingly taking photos of my face is a massive step for me. So yeah I’m probs being vain and shit but idgaf. 8)
Privileged, rich conservative white trans lady: *comes out*
Mainstream gay movement: “WOW!” *applause and praise*
Undocumented trans woman of colour: *risks safety and well-being to come out against racial injustice and institutional abuse perpetuated by the Obama administration*
Mainstream gay movement: “HOW DARE YOU INTERRUPT OBAMA!” *comments with racism and transmisogyny and ignores the issues at hand*
I, for one, am hoping that Jennicet Gutiérrez gets more positive attention in the media than Caitlyn Jenner.
[Obama] came out, started speaking and started to get into his speech on how wonderful everything is, and I couldn’t help but think about the conditions that my LGBTQ Latino/Latina, especially trans women of color, are facing in detention. So, to me, that was the moment I had to speak up. I had to raise awareness to the President and to everyone else watching that I’m not just going to celebrate, when my trans sisters are facing a lot of violence in the detention centers. [Trans women are facing] sexual and physical abuse, and I just had to send a message.
